How DoctorsProof Works

Our Principle

We believe patients deserve free access to the same information regulators have. We don't rank doctors. We don't sell leads. We verify using public government data and give you the context to make your own decision.

Data Sources

NPPES (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System)

Published by CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services). Contains every healthcare provider with an NPI number: name, credentials, specialty taxonomy, practice address, and enumeration date. Updated monthly.

CMS Open Payments (Coming Soon)

Published annually by CMS. Records payments from drug and device manufacturers to physicians. These payments are legal and disclosed — we show them as context, not accusation, benchmarked against specialty peers.

State Medical Boards (Coming Soon)

Each state maintains a medical board that tracks license status, disciplinary actions, and continuing education compliance. We're integrating data from the top 10 states by physician population.

What We Verify

  • NPI Active: The physician has a valid National Provider Identifier
  • License Active: Their state medical license is current (state board data)
  • No Disciplinary Actions: No board actions on record (state board data)
  • Credentials Verified: Their MD/DO credential is confirmed
  • Established Practice: They've been practicing more than 3 years
  • Specialty Match: Their NPI taxonomy code matches their advertised specialty

What We Don't Do

  • We don't rank doctors by "quality" — there's no objective free data for that
  • We don't accept payment for better placement or verification badges
  • We don't replace a personal referral or consultation
  • We don't provide medical advice
